Isidore Gordon Ascher

British writer (1835–1914)

Isidore Gordon Ascher was a British writer, born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1835. He was the eldest son of Isaac Gottschalk Ascher and had a brother named Jacob Ascher. In 1841, Ascher's family relocated to Canada, where he pursued his education at Montreal High School. He later attended McGill University, graduating in law, which led to his call to the bar in 1862.

Ascher's career took a turn when he returned to England in 1864, shifting his focus from law to literature. He went on to become a novelist and poet, establishing himself as a writer in his adopted country. Although his family had moved to Canada during his childhood, Ascher spent his adult life in England, where he developed his writing career. He passed away in 1914, leaving behind a legacy as a Scottish-Canadian novelist and poet who made a name for himself in British literary circles.
